As the former Chief Operating Officer of Charter Schools USA, Ms. Ryan was responsible for facilities and procurement fulfillment, corporate and school operations, including human resources, administration, database management, student recruitment, marketing and admissions as well as security, safety and critical response management. She also oversaw the Early Childhood Division for Charter Schools USA.

Ms. Ryan, was instrumental in the planning and development of Charter Schools USA's first schools: the North Lauderdale Academy High School, the nations first municipally sponsored charter school, Ryder Elementary Charter School, the nation’s first workplace charter school, and the Coral Springs Charter School, one of the largest municipally sponsored charter schools in the country. Ms. Ryan was also a founding member of the Board of Directors for Charter Schools USA.

Sherry Ryan was featured in the South Florida Women's Business Journal under "Women Making a Difference". She was also featured in the winter edition of In Focus Magazine article entitled " The Charter Connection". In July 2002, National Campaign for Tolerance Co-chairs: Morris Dees and Rosa Parks placed Sherry "Marcellino" Ryan's name on the "Wall of Tolerance".
